Hello everyone,

I will be a 3rd year at UCLA this fall. I need to take the DAT soon and I have began to think about my gpa and whether it is worth waiting to apply after my 4th year instead of my 3rd year.

My Cgpa after my second year is 3.30 and my sci gpa is 3.36 (strong upward trend, started with a 2.6 my first quarter)
My projected (and realistic) gpa after my third year will be Cgpa - 3.40 and sci gpa - 3.43

My projected gpa after my 4th year would be Cgpa 3.47 and sci gpa - 3.52

I calculated these gpa's with what I think i would get (B, B+,A-,A).

I was wondering if it will be worth taking a year off with these projected gpa's? I am assuming i would have the same DAT score applying at either time.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated it.

Btw, top choices in schools are ucsf, uop, and columbia if this helps.

Thanks for the help!

not. just focus on doing well on the DAT.

Current GPA now - 3.3
Project GPA next year - 3.47
Actually GPA next year - who knows?

My point is, you do not know for sure? So, you need to make sure you do well on the DAT to get adcoms to bite at your application. So, the question is take it this year or next year as you asked. My thought is to take it this year. If you don't do as well as you would like on it this year, you aren't out of a whole lot except the cost of the exam. But, you gain experience and an idea of the areas you may be deficient in knowledge. I think waiting a year would not assure you of anything other than a year of worrying about the exam. Take it now, get it over with.

Thanks for the advice guys. I only have 3 pre-recs lefts since i am on the quarter system. I was planning on taking 3 easy science gpa booster classes this upcoming year to help my gpa.

i graduated undergrad in december of 2010 and will be starting ds in aug.
i dont think its a good idea to take a yr off cuz im really worrying rite now.
i havent studied for anything in such a long time. I can hardly remember the way i study.

the summer break is good enough...unless u have somthing important to do during ur possible yr off... apply rite away!
