Just curious...

Who plans to stay active on SDN through vet school?

I'm not sure how long this forum has been around, but it really seems like the only one of its type. It could become a nice networking/idea exchange place for a number of purposes.

I definitely plan on staying involved, hopefully i'll have *some* time to spod on the internet! 🙂 Ive really enjoyed this forum so far, and it makes me a little sad that I only discovered it after all my interviews were done! But it does seem like it would be a great source if only vet students can keep up at it. We'll see!

Good topic HorseyVet. I'm not sure if I'll stay active on SDN, though I might occasionally give advice if I have something really worthwhile to say. However, I was considering starting a vet school themed blog. There are three factors that could complicate that plan: lack of time, dissatisfaction with the quality of my writing, and unease with self-exposure. Maybe I shouldn’t worry too much about self-exposure. This is the internet and no one can arrest someone embellishing or altering the details of his life. Anyhow, I’ll think this over some more this weekend on when I fly down to my family’s private Bahamian cay for few days of R&R.

I enjoy helping people in the application process. I did not even know about SDN until I was already in vet school 😳 I wish I did know about it before hand just to have others to talk to when going through the application process. I guess that is why I post. Oh and I need to take study breaks sometimes 😉

The general trend on this forum, from my observations, is that people are really really active this time of year and that will start to die down in another month or two. Most of the accepted students seem to gradually wander away by the time school starts and check in very infrequently and the boards pick up again with a new round of applicants around October. I hope our very active group of SDNers sticks around and reverses the trend tho! I personally plan to stay active on SDN and keep moderating the board, but if it becomes too much, Ill have to pass the torch...

I too hope to stay involved as much as possible, especially because I know that students already in vet schools can be a huge asset for those just beginning the application process.
On the other hand, this forum has been a huge, albeit enjoyable, time sink for me, so when it comes to prioritizing time while in veterinary school I am afraid that SDN many eventually end up down the list a ways.

No more :scared: for me

The main reason I intend to limit my posting on this site its target audience- those trying to get into veterinary programs. While applicants may have questions about a specific school that a current student can and should answer, most of the discussions deal with the neuroses and tension associated with getting into veterinary school and watching others get into vet school. Unless I can offer universally comforting news, I just don’t think next year’s applicants would benefit from another voice discussing the minutiae of a taxing application process.

If there was a separate thread devoted to chatting about course material, professors, and the general veterinary school experience, I would gladly participate in that; however, living through one application cycle is more than enough fun for me.

Hey all,

Just wanted to let everyone know that I contacted Lee (the SDN God 🙂) about the possibility of creating a new forum or a sub-forum to this board specifically for those already in vet school and graduated veterinarians. I think it would be a great resource, especially since so many of us are headed that way in the fall. I will keep everyone posted as soon as I hear something!

One more thing, awhile ago I had asked SDN about creating a vet section of the "Interview Feedback" section of SDN. This feature is on the to-do list and should be up and running fairly soon so try to keep your interview experiences in mind so we can help future vets in that area 🙂

Awesome! I've been so jealous of all the great resources out there for pre-med and med students. I think both resources will be invaluable! Thanks for doing this.

Like others have said, I hope to stay involved on the board. It was an immeasurable help for me to be able to ask advice of others who had gone
through the admissions process already, so I hope to return the favor if I can. It would be great too to have a vet student board. On the other hand, I'm sure I won't be spending AS much time on it in vet school as I am now!!

Just to let everyone know, I just heard back from Lee and you should look for the Vet students forum/sub-forum very soon! 🙂
