Accepted students who change their status to "medical student" before even going to the first day of class in the fall. Seriously, wait for it like the rest of us 😛

Yea, I can see where you are coming from. But you know what really grinds my gears?

People who get their gears all ground up because people change their statuses on SDN...

So you're telling us you've already enrolled and started classes at Tufts?

Agreed; it's quite presumptuous to assume that you're going to be a part of the Tufts class of 2013 before you've even started. :meanie: Who knows? You could be delayed a year due to circumstances during med school, fail out, etc. :meanie:

Wait- you actually pay attention to this? So after you notice someones status do you track down their posts to see if they are at school yet?

Sounds like self-induced gear-grinding....

Just something I've noticed lately 😛 It really doesn't grind my gears, I just felt like using that image somehow in a thread.

And to whoever made a comment about my "Class of 2013" line on my sig for TUSM, why not just forbid anyone who hasn't yet graduated medical school? 😛

to appear less of a dick, I just tell people I am going to grad school soon now.

No it is an issue, because some readers assume that a poster has more credibility based on where he is in the process. Honestly someone who has yet to attend med school has no added insight over someone who is simply a senior in college, while someone who is in their last year of medical school probably has significant insight as to the med school path. Yet if a just accepted person adds med student to their profile, it exhalts their credibility in the eyes of someone who isn't familiar with the players.

Similarly, 4th year med students shouldn't (and don't) list themselves as residents right after the match in mid march. Heck, the optho/uro and military match folks already had their matches, so should they be passing themselves off as residents notwithstanding that they won't be starting their intern year for 6 months. So no, you are premed until your orientation starts. Deal with it.

I'm so excited and proud that I want to change my status to "Medical Student", but I haven't because I can understand the argument that I haven't felt the wrath upon me yet... so I have no right.

Still, super duper proud and want to show it... but alas, I wait.

Actually the 2013'ers have it pretty-well advertised that they're starting in September.

"You know what really grinds my gears? You, America...F*%& YOU!"

I could not stop laughing when he did that. But I agree. You ain't no med student until you set foot on campus first day of class.

I'm hesitant to put Class of 2013 on my profile, because its relatively common to take a research year or get a dual degree, so I might not actually get my MD in 2013...

Whereas in high school and college, I definitely associated myself with "Class of ___"

I wonder if I'm the only one who recognizes your custom title and avatar, OP? Saw Sasha, Digweed, and Jimmy Van M live back in high school. That was pretty sweet, to say the least.

You can still show your excitement without the "jumping the gun" issue - just change your user title to MS0.

And don't worry, you'll know it when you're really a "Medical Student" - it should sink in on your first day in anatomy lab, then again in your first anatomy exam.

No it's not.

But thanks for proving Law2Doc's point.

If you have the time to change your status to "Medical Student" then you aren't a medical student. Think about it 😛

Um, at some schools as many as half the class graduate in 5 or more years.

But what do I know? My status says premed, so that would be nothing, right?

We should have a subforum for the posers.

You know what really grinds my gears?

These last few months of undergrad....👎

Dude, didn't you guys know class of 2013 starts Oct 15th, 2008? Come on.

You know what really doesn't grind my gears? Law2Doc. He is sweet.

Maybe for you, but I'm starting in early July.

I know! I haven't had any motivation to do any work, even though I'm just taking 3 classes (I'm on a reduced senior status this semester) and one of them is a cake walk for me.

Gotcha- that is a good point.

Depends what school you're talking about. You also don't know how interested shemarty is in taking an extra year or two. In fact, I've been toying with the idea more lately...

http://www.aamc.org/data/aib/aibissues/aibvol7_no2.pdf

20% or so of students take 5 or more years. Granted, failing a year isn't the same as getting a Masters, but it still results in having to alter your Class year.
This publication has NOTHING to do with taking a year for research, the subject of the post to which I replied.

From YOUR link: "...presents rates of graduation and attrition due to academic reasons while also factoring in race/ethnicity."

Those X-ray specs you used to buy out of the comics. I save up forever to buy these things and when I finally get em yesterday I couldn't see the inside of my son's belly. See, I wanted to see if he'd eaten the last Nilla wafer...'cause I told him I wanted it. Boy, I tell ya, that really grinds my gears.

wow some one has their panties in a twist, geez calm down. You were put in your place with their response and it showed you were wrong. Learn and move on.

What do you know? Perhaps you are right....

I feel really lame for wanting to switch my SDN status to Medical Student so badly...admit it, it's pretty nerdy. Sigh...6 months to go.

Everyone knows it's not for real until you change your facebook profile to include medical school...its the same with relationships, btw.

ok, mom.

lol. We were just talking about this in my communications class. My prof doesn't understand facebook. It's sad how important it is to us. I'm recently FBO (facebook official) with a girl. Guess that makes it real. I can't join the OHSU network though, I need a valid school email 🙁
