Hi, it would really help me if you guys could reply. I was wondering whether all med school write on the acceptance letter that the senior grades after acceptance have to be C or better. I am in borderline of one of my classes and might get a C- or C. It has been a rough semester for me. I also got accepted to Suny Upstate and that was one of its critera. I just wanted to know if others have faced this situation and whether all other schools asks to maintain C or better or do they have other rules like maintaining an acceptable "overall" semester gpa.

Mine says "This acceptance is contingent upon the successful completion of your present academic program, including the minimum course requirements as noted on the Prerequisite Completion Sheet." No mention of GPA, so I would surmise (for UTCOM, at least), that as long as you graduate, you're good.

From what I here, at most schools you will be fine if you get your expected degree/degrees and do not fail a class.

If suny upstate has that criteria then I would go by what it says.

Once you get your letter, ask the admissions director, or their secretary a general "hypothetical question" to find out.

If a school actually specifies that you must maintain a C or above in all remaining coursework (and many do), you probably must maintain a C or above. Your acceptance is actually contingent on this. While I doubt a school would actually revoke your acceptance outright, few people have tested this theory, and at a minimum they theoretically could make you retake a class over the summer prior to matriculation. I would recommend doing what you can to get that C.

From what I have seen this is a fairly common requirement. Out of the four schools I got into last cycle three of them had this stipulation in their acceptance letters. So, even if you choose not to go to Upstate it may be an issue at other schools as well. In addition, I believe that all the contract says is that if you get below a C you must submit a letter explaining the grade. I don't know if it is an automatic withdrawal of your acceptance. Good luck, and im sure that you will be able to make the C or better.🙂:luck:

I actually called my school after being accepted and they said they just care that I get the degree that I mentioned in my application.

Unless you have been a jerk in the class you are talking about (like showing that you dont care because you got into med school), the professors might be nice enough to bump you up to a C instead of a C-. Good luck.

P.S.: how does one going from a nearly straight A (maybe a few Bs too) student to having a hard time getting a C in a class? Is the class that hard? or did that acceptance letter make you slack off?!

In reality, even if it's just one class, what you don't want is to fail it and not get your degree. Then your acceptance will be rescinded and your screwed. I don't think many schools, if any, have a GPA requirement (and by know, should be wise enough to know this happens).

Though I always wonder if GPA affects scholarships if you have to use your Fall grades...

It's a class in accounting. Interview trips really lowered it. It was hard to study for interviews and manage this course at the same time.

Mine says "Maintain a reasonable GPA". I dont know what that means. Id say avoid C's.

What if I was minoring in Spanish and decide not to because I'm running out of units and even if I petiiton for more, I would have to take summer school (which is impossible since med schools often start in August)? If I don't finish my spanish classes and withdraw from spanish minor but still complete my major, would med schools care?
