the yale secondary asks to list significant "achievements".
seriously, what does that word even mean? research ppl will probably put that they published this and this paper, and how thrilling it was to discover something all on their own, and we'll all be able to smell the cheese from miles away. but i assume there are applicants like me, who've done a lot of clinical things or non-medical endeavors, which don't give you publications or awards, but sometimes do give meaningful experience. how do we answer this question? do you guys think putting something like i trekked across some third world country without getting cannibalized would be valid? or would it be better to just leave it blank if you don't have anything statistical to present besides (heh..) dean's list?

(i love how yale's not rolling, so i'm taking my sweet time on it.)

My counsellor called up Yale about this. Apparently the question was written back in the days when you can list any many activities and achievements you like on AMCAS (No 15 item limit). That's just too overwhelming for admissions people, so they want you to pick 1 or a few achievements to talk about

I, too would be tempted to write something like "stayed married for 10 years," or "kept my mentally ill mother alive through a year of breast cancer treatments," or "didn't end up in the nut-hatch when taking calculus and organic chemistry while working two jobs and taking 10 other units." But ya, that and a dollar would get me a cup of coffee.

For the Activities section, I chose 5 significant experience and wrote a small blurb about each of those experiences.

For the Awards section, I LISTED scholarships, small academic awards, and poster presentations.
Very litte to no description.

Is that how you guys are doing it?

Hey Lapis (Pencil),
You're right!! Since Yale isn't on rolling admissions, I am not rushing this application. Are you writing the optional essay?

Well, the I don't think the question is asking for "awards," but "achievements" you deem most significant. I kinda stole some parts from my response to UChicago's question that asks to describe when I felt I truly helped someone... and then I listed some of the important goals I accomplished in my activties.

The question asks for "distinctions", which consider to be "awards".
