Your Schools Electronic Record System

Hey,

So I was wondering some stuff:

1. Does your school have an electronic charting system, and if so what is it? (For example Pacific is changing to Axium)

2. Does your school allow you to schedule patients electronically off campus, or do you need to be logged on to your EHR (electronic Health Records) system on campus to do it?

Sucks for you. Our school has been using ever since they stopped using paper charting. I've heard nothing but complaints. It's not user friendly, it's slow, and its counter intuitive. They recently upgraded to a new version and it's even slower than the previous along with a nice new set of bugs to work around.

We have to schedule our appointments through Axium and the program is available only on the schools intranet. We have no access to it off site. It would be nice to be able to make appointments from home. I think there's just too many issues with security and the possibility of someone gaining access to your computer and getting into patient records.

I don't know how slow or bad Axium is...but right now our current EHR system is pretty bad. It's a self-made system by the school that allows us to do 1/2 of our charting, Tx planning, and Financial work online and half of it in a paper chart. so right now, we write up a chart and fill out lots of paperwork but also have the fun of doing some charting on the computer and filling in stuff there. I think my system crashes on me about 1 time per clinic session, usually when I am trying to get an instructor to check something off online, so hopefully Axium isn't worse than that.

The only real bad thing I can imagine with the change is that having a set up system via Axium, our school may force us to chart certain things we sometimes would skip over in paper charts. For example, we have an Ortho Screening form and a CAMBRA form that we are supposed to fill out every single time we do an exam or reeval, but most of us skip those or fly through them because most of our patients have been at the school so long they have already said no to Ortho 18 times or had no changes on their CAMBRA form for 3 years. With the new system, my guess is that we'll be forced to fill out those forms electronically each time despite whether or not we feel they are useful to do for the individual patient.

What do you mean your 87 year old edentulous patient doesn't need a 30th ortho screening and caries risk assessment!?!?! I'm reporting you to the ethics chair.
