Does anyone else agree that a school promoting their other health-related schools, programs, or degrees to rejected medical school applicants is in poor taste? Personally, it feels like rubbing salt onto the wound of rejection: "You're not good enough for medical school; pursue an MPH instead."

agreed....georgetown trying to peddle some other degree after taking my $130 and insta-rejecting me was in very poor taste....it was obvious they knew it was in poor taste because they wrote on the card that it was sent to all applicants...which we all know isn't true

Georgetown tried to get me to enroll in their SMP program after rejecting me

Though I think that they probably do send that to all REJECTED applicants. Makes sense if they want to maximize revenue.

Case tried to get me to enroll into their 2-year anesthesiology tech program. I never applied to Case. I wanted to reply with, sorry, I'd rather become an actual anesthesiologist and have the means to do so, but I don't think there was a pre-stamped reply envelope.

Education is big business right now. The degree mills they are a churnin'.

oh yea, i'm sure they do....but the card they sent specifically said they send it to ALL applicants

...i dont think the one they sent me was for the SMP though

haha yea i got the SMP letter from Georgetown also. I also got an MPH letter from Drexel, and 2 other letters asking me to apply for Masters in Biotech or something from 2 other schools. It's really irritating. But, if you think on the positive side, at least they are trying to offer help in case you don't make it in this cycle.

hey don't knock it til you've tried it. some of these programs can help you get in for the following cycle...but don't do it unless it's your last option.

One of my medical school interviewers peddled an MPH program to me. Once she was finished, we spent 8-10 minutes going over whether or not I had completed the necessary prerequisites for medical school.

It was pretty insulting spending interview time on stuff like that..

I agree, especially considering some let you use your medical school application as your application to the other program. It makes it seem as if the admissions standards and competitiveness of the other programs are next to nil, and money is the bottom line.
