They are not able to reproduce with humans, but also not necessarily with themselves either. They do "reproduce" by biting other humans. Don't quote me on this but I heard it's supposed to be based off of Romeo and Juliet. But that could be completely false.

In my imaginary world, I figured if it started to create neurodegeneration in the CNS (to an extent, obviously),it would imitate what was in that movie but the people would be slower due to the physiological effects of the nerve damage.

This was just supposed to cause some funny responses, combined with the little bit of science that we know, to speculate about some dumb hypothetical case.
