Hey everyone!
So I just received my score for the January 2018 MCAT and I am not sure how to feel about my score and whether or not I should retake. Specifically I'm super disappointed in the heavy drop in my Chem/Phys score compared to the consistent scores I received on practice tests. Any feedback on whether or not I should retake would be helpful:
- ACTUAL mcat: 513 (
125/128/128/132)
- AAMC FL #1: 514 (131/127/129/127)
- AAMC FL #2: 515 (131/127/129/128)
- AAMC FL #3: 519 (129/130/130/130)
- Next Step: in the range of 510-513
With respect to medical school prospects, here are some of my stats/experience:
- Graduating from UCLA in June 2018
- Major: Psychobiology
- GPA: 3.861
- Extracurriculars:
- 1 year as a medical assistant @ Cedars Sinai full time (~2000 hours); includes shadowing doctors, triaging patients 1-on-1, preparing and closing dictated charts, administering Holter monitors and EKGs, etc.
- 1 year as an organizer for an international cardiology conference
- 1 year of research in a C. elegans neuroscience research lab; presented a poster of findings at a research convention
- 1.5 years of volunteering at UCLA Ronald Reagan hospital (250 hours)
- 4 years tutoring/mentoring underprivileged ESL high school students
- 2 years supervising student workers in UCLA
- 1 year working in UCLA Residential Life
NOTE: I am trying to apply this cycle. The next available test dates in my area are 3/24 and 5/24.
I've also heard about rescoring but that doesn't seem legitimate since the test is computerized.
Thank you for any and all advice!
