Did anyone apply to both the Mayo I6 and the Mayo 4+3? I will be applying next year and was wondering if this would look bad?

Mayo only has a direct 4+3 pathway. They were approved to start an I6, but decided to stick with the 4+3. Good luck.

Yes- according to their program coordinator they just liked the 4+3 pathway better. They do still have approval for an I6 if they ever decide to go back to it. So for you RIPSanto I would check again next year before you are ready to apply to see what they will be doing.
On a side note, Carrie thanks for keeping this updated! you rock. Looking forward to meeting you on the trail

Kind of a long shot but would anyone who has UNC on Feb 7 be willing to trade with me for Dec 13? I'm really screwed if I can't work this one out!

Thanks

Hi, for those of you who interviewed at Cincinnati today, when were you done with the day? I'm trying to buy a plane ticket as early as possible so I can make it to another program's dinner. Thanks!

Anyone looking to interview at UW, but also interviewing at Duke?

I'm trying to engender UW/Duke to offer another interview date.

If yes, please let me know. It'll be better if we all email the same program (I'm thinking UW since they're later than Duke) with the same request...

Hey, Yes. I have the same problem. I emailed UW back and asked for them to create another date. hopefully they will be able to.

Hear back from UW?

Delloney emailed today with the following email:

Unfortunately January 17th is our only date this year for interviews. I wish we could accommodate outside this date, but are not able to. If you are able to come for most of the day but not the dinner, we could probably make that work.

This is of no help since Duke's interview begins Friday AM...

My gut tells me UW won't budge. Anyone reached out to Duke yet?

The overlapping i6 interviews this season have been extremely frustrating. Thanks for the response. I doubt Duke will budge either..

I heard back from UW regarding a final plea for a change of date:
While I do understand your situation, and wish there were a way residencies could work in unison to accommodate candidate schedules, such is not the case. Our date has been chosen because that is the only day our faculty can actually all be here to interview. I wish I could be more helpful and realize you have difficult decisions to make, but please understand we are unable to hold individual interview dates for those unable to make the January 17th date

I haven't contacted Duke, did anyone make any progress with them?

Couple questions from a future applicant if anyone is willing to advise...

Are you guys getting spotted as a dual ct app at general surgery interviews? If so, how are you responding and what reactions are you getting? Any advice on how to deal with this?

Are you guys hearing anything about the future of ct fellowships? I'm still interested in possibly the gen surg route, but have heard by 2020 the ct fellowships will have been replaced.

How competitive are away rotations?? I have the fear of either applying to too many (and having to turn down an away rotation at a potential program) or not landing an away at all. How would you handle this? Also, any recommendations on good aways.... Good experience and possible letters

Last, does anyone have a list of the schools with 4+3 programs?

Thanks!!! I know this is a lot and appreciate any advice

Same reply from UW....really frustrating since they sent out invites so late...and seems like a bunch of us are having the same problem.
Anybody hear anything from Duke? I wonder why it is a full 2 day thing...they didn't have anything going on Friday morning at first and added that later.

1. I think it is a waste of money to apply to general surgery at places that you are applying I6....got 2 out of the 24, for I6 you need a strong CT presence in your app, and the stronger that is, the weaker you are for a gen surg invites. In retrospect I wish I saved the app fees on the 25ish programs or so...

2. Apply to away rotations that you think you are interested in, for the most part they are first come first serve

3. If you have any part of you that wants to do general surgery first...you should only apply general surgery. There will always be traditional ct fellowships, and there are not many general surgery residents applying to them (likely to even be less as more people are applying I6). I highly recommend figuring that out soon. If you decide that, I would target general surgery programs with strong CT divisions (with a strong history of training) , that way you have much more of a chance to get their CT spot. Good luck!

So, it looks like Mt. Sinai's interview date is the same as Penn, 1/4. Apparently they did this last year too (same day as Penn), which makes me think they are doing it on purpose. One of the applicants from last year told me they said no to having an alternate date. However, they do have a great program- would anyone want to send a group e-mail to them asking them for another date?
