3.8/521 Reapplicant, Need Help Narrowing School List

Reapplicant from last cycle. Complete at 40 schools late August - mid September and got 0 II. Feedback meetings with Adcoms and self-reflection have made me believe my issues were writing, shadowing, and a late application.

I don't have very meaningful research experience (mine was mostly data entry/analysis), so I'm trying to avoid T20 research heavy schools this time around and apply to more mid-tier schools.

I need help narrowing my MD school list to ~40-45 max. I am not sure how many schools to include where I am a first time applicant vs reapplicant.

Bolded and Green is New

GPA: Both 3.85
MCAT: 521
Demographics: CA ORM, ties to DMV

Research Exp:
600 hr Economics data entry/analysis

Clinical Exp:
500 ->1050 hr Volunteer EMT

Volunteer Exp:
1750 hr AmeriCorps, Teacher at under-resourced schools
180 hr teaching at program for underserved students
35 hr tutoring, again underserved students
20 -> 40 hr soup kitchen
35 hr local nonprofit

Shadowing Exp:
16 -> 40 hr

Some of the new schools on your list may "yield protect" such as Drexel, Temple, Wake and Albany.

Applying to 40 schools is overkill. You will burn yourself out writing essays. You should be applying to between 25 to 35 schools.

That's something I've been thinking of as well. I'm trying to balance that and still maximize my chances this year to avoid another reapp. Looking forward to your list, thanks in advance Goro.
