Hi!

I just got my score back (504) and I’m a bit disappointed. I was hoping for 508-510. I am working on revisiting my school list given my score.

My non-traditional background includes a MHA degree w/ 3 years working in hospital management, >1000 hours hospital volunteering, full time volunteer work in SE Asia for 4 months (like Americorps) & now I am running a medical NGO & orphanage in East Africa.

My question is - with my less than ideal score of 504, do I still have a decent shot at a quality MD program (in-state in Iowa & Minnesota) given my non-traditional path & resume? Or should I study hard and retake with a 2023 target matriculation? I will also be applying DO but would prefer MD.

I know a lot depends on LORs/personal statement/interviews but I was just interested in getting an opinion on what type/level of schools I should be applying to this cycle.

thank you!

You are competitive for almost all DO schools with your stats. You could try any of these:
DMU-COM
ATSU-KCOM
KCU-COM
MU-COM
CCOM
AZCOM
TUNCOM
PCOM (all schools)
LECOM (all schools)
UNECOM
VCOM (all schools except Monroe)
CUSOM
ACOM
For MD schools I suggest:
Your state public MD schools
Loyola
Rosalind Franklin
Rush
Medical College Wisconsin
Wayne State
Oakland Beaumont
St. Louis
Creighton
TCU-UNT
NOVA MD
George Washington
Georgetown
Drexel
Temple
Seton Hall
New York Medical College
Albany
Vermont
Quinnipiac

The MCAT does limit you for MD. Your very unique background and accomplishments however are a huge plus. I would look into the list Faha gave. Otherwise an MCAT retake with 510+ is probably the best option.
