Hi,

I would like to understand more about counseling men and women in abusive relationship. I am looking for books, which provide theories and techniques. Any recommendations? Thanks!

There is a good chapter on this topic in Gurman's Clinical Handbook of Couple Therapy. I don't know of any freestanding books I can recommend.

Trauma and Recovery by Judith Herman. A lesser known one but perhaps as equally powerful is Soul Murder by Leonard Shengold - it is not directly about d/v but is certainly helpful to know in thinking of the histories of some people with d/v issues. Both are an excellent and must-read for those who are interested in working with or studying interpersonal trauma.
