Hello everyone!

This is my first time on SDN and I would like some opinions on my chances for MD and DO schools.

cGPA 3.405
sGPA (don't know how to calculate)
Allied Health major, Gerontology minor (Junior year now)

Volunteering
2 week trip to Ghana, West Africa to provide medical relief for community members in a village. I got to shadow doctors while they diagnosed and prescribed medication. I also worked in the triage and dental stations
I have a volunteered at a senior day care center
I also volunteered as a tutor for an elementary school student

Work Experience
I currently work at the clinical laboratory at my school's infirmary where I handle specimen and run rapid tests, streak plates with specimen, etc.

Research
Last summer I did a research program funded by the NIH/NIDDK for 10 weeks and did a few poster presentations

Lastly I have my nursing assistant certification from high school but I have never worked with it

I am taking a review course for the MCAT and will be doing another one in the summer before I take it in August. I hope to score above a 30.

With all this information, what may be my chances? And should I consider a year off to maybe pursue research? Thank you.

If you take the MCAT in August, you (and AMCAS) won't receive your score until September... I'd consider waiting a year to apply. Personally I'd say do some more volunteering/shadowing rather than research, but I'll leave that up to you.
