Hey, all. I'm starting my first moonlighting gig soon, some straightforward (if there is such a thing) outpatient med management work. a little nervous but really jazzed.

Anyone have any favorite references for treatment algorithms, etc? Or any favorite general references?

So far, I'm digging stahl's prescriber's guide, but it's purpose is limited. Saddock seems to be a little 'put-it-in-there-cause-it-has-to-be-in-there.' APA textbook is great but thick.

Any fans of Mass Gen Hospital Psych Primary Care Psych text?

ideas? don't want to kill anyone.

...sigh

I guess I'm wondering which books you are most often referencing in outpt practice. What's been most useful?

What do you mean by treatment algorithms exactly?
You seem to be going down cookbook medicine road. A surefire way to kill people.

Guys.... guys. I know psychiatry is an art. Was just wondering about favorite references for basic EBM, standard of care, etc, for outpt psych since lots of my training and reference guides have been for inpt work.

These may seem a bit obvious, but...from a Google search "psychiatry, guidelines"

http://www.psychiatryonline.com/pracGuide/pracGuideHome.aspx

http://www.medscape.com/pages/editorial/public/pguidelines/index-psychiatry

T-MAP
http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/mhprograms/disclaimer.shtm

http://www.psychguides.com/available

Remember,
treat the patient, not the labs, not the guidelines.
However, when you choose to divert from "typical practice", your own "pattern of practice" or from established guidelines - DOCUMENT WHY you are diverting, how you explained your plan to the pt, how you plan to monitor the results of your decision, FOLLOW-UP by documenting the RESULTS of your decision

UTox, citalopram 20 mg daily, trazodone 50 mg qhs.
Maybe 25 mg of hydroxyzine q 4 prn.
Adjust from there.

"1-item version of Universal Treatment Protocol"
Xanax 0.5mg PO q disappointment/aggravation/irritation
