Hello!

I understand the basic difference between allergies (type I hypersensitivities) in a general sense. But my question is...is there much of a difference in terms of pathogenesis?

It seems to me as though they are both IgE/Mast Cell mediated, by the release of histamine (and other mediators) that cause bronchoconstriction, mucus secretion, and airway inflammation. Would anyone else be of the mind that asthma seems to be a more severe, chronic type of allergy?

Thanks in advance!
