Hey everyone
Since this site has been helpful in answering any questions I've had about applying, I thought I'd ask for advice about which schools I'd have the best chance of being accepted into. I am applying to med schools as well as masters programs. If anyone has anyother schools I might have overlooked please let me know. I've taken practice MCATs and have score between 27-30 assuming I obtain a score in this range when I take the MCAT in August, what are my chances? Thank you for any advice.

Some stats
3.19 Science and overall GPA
5 years of paid clinical experience in a hospital
2 semesters of research experience
Have shadowed numerous physicians, I've shadowed the physician writing the D.O LOR since 2009.

If you get a 27, you may have a shot at some of the newer DO schools like ACOM or WCU. However, I wouldn't even bother applying to NOVA or PCOM with those stats - I think your GPA is just too low. You could try for the more competitive DO schools if you get a higher MCAT ( >30 ). Looks like your masters programs are good. Have you thought about adding Mississippi College's MS program?

Disagree regarding Nova. If you get 28+, you should definitely apply to Nova since they put so much emphasis on the MCAT. I don't think the MS program would be a good idea if you score 26+ mcat because you can retake a few classes you got C or lower so you can increase your GPAs using the grade replacement policy.

26+ will get you in somewhere if you apply broadly.

30+ will make you competitive for all DO schools.

I say 25 and he will be fine for the newer schools. I will bet my bottom dollar on that. 27 and he will seriously have more interviews than he will know what to do with. look at the person with the 3.09/3.12/27....interviews at KCOM, WVSOM, ACOM, NSU, Touro-NY, PNWU, and SOMA. (Their case is not atypical.)

I'll be an Underdog next year, and hope that that case isn't atypical. However, I'd like to be realistic and say that it isn't 'typical'.

You're describing the user Coolingglasses, if I'm not mistaken. That guy had ridiculous ECs.

I think he/she is, but coolingglass has probably 5+ years working in an healthcare setting. That itself might be atypical.

i havent looked into it but i def will. thanks for the recommendation

+1

I have decent ECs, 3.4/3.25 GPA and 27 MCAT. Apply early and you'll have a good chance elsewhere too. I just think your GPA is a little low.
