If one is in a program with no in house fellowships and from a less well known program, what can one do to increase chances of matching into nephro? Does being a excellent resident(from LORs, CV) with some recent publications helpful or is contacts with programs the key factor in getting interviews?

Any input from someone experienced out there is appreciated.
