For bilateral testicular masses (e.g. development in previously cryptorchid testes which needed to be surgically lowered) with no evidence of metastases, do you do a unilateral orchiectomy to confirm histologic diagnosis of cancer (and therefore try to preserve fertility...i.e. you would only take out the other testes if the first orchiectomy revealed cancer) OR would you just take out both testes?

I had a response typed out before I saw you weren't asking about a prophylactic orchiectomy to prevent malignancy in a patient w/ long-standing cryptorchidism. I am not sure of this answer and could not easily find a googleable answer.
