Book for general principles for intern on surgery

What would you suggest as a quick reference for general issues encountered on call for floor patients as an off-service intern? I'm doing 6 months of general surgery next year and I don't want to be an idiot, but I don't want to buy Sabiston's either.

Bonus points if its a handbook.

The Washington University Surgery Survival Guide is pretty good, though no matter what book you choose, you'll realize you no longer use it after about the first month, so whatever book you buy, go cheap.
