I'm a little confused about this whole PGY1 (GPR) thing and licensure so i have a question and hope people can help me out. I am doing OMFS residency in North East and as of recently I'm interested in moving to California. I know that Cali accepts completion of PGY1 residency for licensure but want to know if it also applies to specialties or only General Dentistry residencies. So if I finish a six year residency (and will be well beyond PGY1), can I apply for Cali state dental license just with that?

Thank you.

Pretty sure California only accepts a gpr or aegd. Here's the link. http://www.dbc.ca.gov/applicants/dds/lic_by_residency.shtml

If you plan to do a gpr or aegd after dental school and practice in cali afterwards, you are better off skipping the wreb or cal state board exam. There is a disqualifier to the pgy-1 option if you failed one of those 2 board exams within the last 5 years so it can't be a back-up option for failing the practical board.

thanks for the info to all.

If you do get just this permit is there any limitation on what you can bill for. Say would you be allowed to do occlusal guards for conservative TMJ therapy.
