Hello Everyone,

Need your advise, if you are an IMG and got accepted for Residence in Canada, Ontario.
You will have to complete ROS which is 5 year term.

Any Ideas or could someone share their experience dealing with ROS. How do they measure or what is the cost.
We were thinking to open a private practice but then how you could report and it would count to ROS.

If any IMGs have gone through this process, if you could share your experience, much appreciated !

If you are considering this, I highly recommend reachng out to the Ontario MoH and get their updated requirements, as the program changes over time.

Their website is here: Licensing - Physicians - Health Workforce Planning Branch - Health Care Professionals - MOHLTC

There is a longer explanation (although older, from 2007) here: https://www.carms.ca/pdfs/OntarioROS.pdf I expect you might be able to get something more updated from Ontario.

In general, you can't just "open a private practice". You need to have an agreement, in writing, from a community when you start training. then, once your training is complete, you go work there. So you have to set something up beforehand. But it certainly could be a PP setup.

And it needs to be in an underserved area. Which currently is defined as:
Eligible communities for practice location: Anywhere in Ontario except the City of Ottawa, Toronto, Pickering, Markham, Vaughan, Brampton and Mississauga

(This assumes you are doing a primary care field. If a specialist, it's much more complicated and you should expect to work in the northern part of the province)
