I was accepted at CWRUSOM and UWSMPH and was looking for advice on which school to attend. I am interested in surgery and competitive specialties like ortho.

Case Western

Pros:
  • Excellent match list
  • Great student body
  • Strong hospital network and rotations
Cons:
  • Tuition is $72,000
  • Shorter anatomy block

Madison

Pros:

- Tuition is $44,000 ($28,000 less than Case)
- Closer to home (not huge factor in my decision)
Cons:

- Fewer matches into competitive specialties
- Large portion of student body comes from in state

Both are top programs but it seems like you are more excited about case western plus it has the matches you are looking for so I think this is answered in your mind already

I mean you're going to shell out ~120k more for Case, a peer school to UW Madison? You'll likely get similar opportunities so unless theres a program at Case that is really calling out to you, go UW-madison.

How hard will the financial aid folks at Case help you lower that number down once you are a student?
Case does not offer any merit aid unfortunatley. Do you know of any ways similar institutions have been able to help their students lower costs in the past?
