Many of us are frustrated at the lip service the AMA gives to primary care. Currently, primary care's future is threatened by poor reimbursement levels, the nursing lobby, etc. In response, many have dropped thier membership in the AMA. However, if you are still a member, please vote for AAFP representation in the AMA HOD. The only way to enact meaningful change in the AMA, so they will represent primary care fairly is to do it from the inside.

"As a member of the AMA, you are eligible to vote for the national medical specialty society that best represents you in the AMA House of Delegates (HOD). AMA policy calls for every AMA member to be represented by both a state medical society and a national medical specialty society.

We encourage you to exercise your vote by indicating which of the 109 national medical specialty societies seated in the AMA HOD you would like to represent you. By visiting http://enews.ama-assn.org/t/400851/3965719/1736/0/?u=aHR0cDovL3d3dy5hbWEtYXNzbi5vcmcvZ28vYmFsbG90&x=0dc5207d you can make your choice. If you do not already have an AMA members only password, the process for establishing one is simple, just follow the prompts for creating a members only password. Not only will this allow you to cast your ballot, it will also give you access to the other valuable resources available on the AMA web page. "

I did last week. I don't think I will renew my membership next year though. Hopefully the AMA is close to losing it's influence with so many recognizing that their advisory committee it so heavy with specialists and MedPac calling them out on it.
