Civilian contractor for Military Salary potential???

Does it make financial sense for any new attending to work for the military as a civilian? Can you even do that or do you have to take the HPLRP? If you are in one of the lower paying specialties fm, im, psych does the total compensation for the military come close to what you would expect in the civilian world? Maybe around 250k??

My SO worked as a DA civilian for several years; the salary was competitive for other employed positions in the local market. The clinic had a relatively high turnover rate among the physicians, so I guess it wasn't high enough.
