i understand you find out the list of programs with unmatched spots on March 13 i think. and then you start sending them your ERAS application and you call them. but i have a few questions still.

1.) if you already applied to a program like U.Chicago and they already rejected you, then you find out they have an unmatched spot, do you still have to fax them a copy of your ERAS application since they already have it? and i'm assuming the chances of you getting in are really low since they already rejected you once.

2.) and they said you have to have a paper copy of the application, how do get the paper copy of your LOR's? b/c on the eras website you cant see your LOR's or your med school transcript. so i dont know how i would print that out.

3.)how do programs fill up the spots so quickly? the PD on the other post said they filled up a spot in 20 minutes. i mean dont the programs want to interview the candidates?

4.) and for an AMG, is sitting down and doing all the scramble stuff in your deans office the best thing to do, instead of at home?

5.) and this girl i met at an interview for IM said that if she didnt match in IM then she would try to scramble for dermatology or radiology. i'm NOT planning on doing that b/c i dont want to and that would be too stressful. but how do applicants do that? i mean if your personal statement and LOR are all for IM, how can you send that to a derm or rads program? it just didnt make sense to me and she wasnt joking either.

You will be contacting programs you are interested in scrambling in to. Even if you already applied, they may tell you to fax them stuff. Your chances will depend on who else is trying to scramble into the program.

Your dean's office will have that stuff. At my school, you check of boxes on what you want to send for each program and they add the things you don't have copies of.

Some places will interview applicants, but the majority just pick somebody. They don't want to end up unfilled. Sometimes they will offer you a spot and will hold it for you for a few hours, in case you are waiting to hear from a different program.

If your dean's office has enough phones and room this is a good option, since they have your LOR's and transcripts. At home you will have peace and quiet, but you will have to contact the dean's office for them to send stuff.

You can try scramble into whatever you want. Programs know you are in a bad situation and they are also in a bad situation if they can't fill. I have heard stories of successful matches coming out of this sort of thing (scrambling into a prestigous program or a different specialty).

thanks for the answers. but for the last question how do people scramble in a different specialty if they havent done any rotations in that field, they dont have any LOR's from specialists in that field, and their Personal statement says something else?
i mean do those students who scramble into a different specialty write a new personal statement?

You can write as many PS as you want and upload many LORS. If someone expict to scramble just be ready for that.
