Ran into an interesting clip from very anti-ESI group called EDNC about ESI.

I would like to see Dr. Oz do an expose about unnecessary cardiac stents and risks of blood thinners if he is that committed to cleaning up medicine. While we can call agree that there are people out there who are looking to just do epi's to make a profit, the vast majority of us are using it as a tool in our treatment arsenal only. I could make any MD look bad if I go to the right ones. Not sure why he has it in for pain.

old news.

he has already done an expose on unnecessary cardiac stents.

his overall message is that holistic health is much better than procedures - which leads to supporting green bean coffee extract based on one very weak study.

You could do an emotional "expose" on every medical treatment, if you gathered up everyone who ever had a complication and put tear-filled interviews with them on TV.

They can interview everyone whose child had a complication from a vaccine (and ignore the millions who didn't get diseases they were vaccinated against.)

They can interview everyone who died of a brain hemorrhage from Coumadin (and ignore all the people who didn't have strokes from their Afib.)

They can interview everyone who died from post spine surgery pulmonary emboli, or who had arachnoiditis from spine surgery or who were paralyzed from spine surgery (yet ignore all those who were helped by surgery "gone right.")

They can interview all those that died of liver failure from Tylenol or family members of those who died from the cyanide contaminated Tylenol years ago (and ignore all those who've had aches and pains relieved from the drug.)

It's an emotional play on peoples' fears, and ignores the fact that properly performed spinal injections, by properly trained doctors, in properly selected patients, can do lots of good with very low rates of complications.

What's sad is that he actually has a pain specialist as a guest from time to time. Why would he then not use her for this segment?

I would like to square off with Dr Dooshbag-Oz in the octagon and beat the $%@# out of his sold-out face. I would break his spine but obviously he doesn't have one.

He can go smoke some marijuana and see what it does for his pain once I'm done with him.

Maybe I'll do some hidden-camera work and do an investigative report to discredit him forever. His audience is people who watch TV during the daytime right? People with back pain on disability right? Of course he needs to keep his disciples entertained and mentally numb with his hoe-bag 6-week-crash-course-now-an-expert-on-back-pain who didn't even graduate from college but wants to be an actress and being a reporter on this show is a stepping stone for what she really wants to do............

I'm gonna go eat a snickers

Dear Dr Oz, I'm 40 years old and hurt my back lifting a plant in my backyard. The pain shoots down my leg and feels like its on fire. Physical therapy didn't help. What should I do? I heard about ESIs and don't want that. I heard about people getting hooked on oxycontin and I don't want that. I heard spine surgery doesn't always work. What should I do? I'm waiting to pass my background check to buy a gun to ease my pain if you know what I mean because the pain is gonna kill me. What should I do?

Sincerely,
Your biggest fan

The guy in charge of EDNC is a lawyer....draw your own conclusions on the true motives here. I have had spirited debates with him on the subject of arachnoiditis, and he dismisses the facts about causation, preferring to focus only on epidural steroids that he believes is causing an epidemic of pain (doesn't like to talk about the fact that these patients had severe pain before the epidural steroids and nearly all have had surgery nor that using fluoroscopy and contrast significantly enhances accurate needle placement).
Oz does his typical hatchet job on whatever subject based on the hysterical uneducated hype of his TV handlers and "investigative reporters". This is the danger of having a doctor that is expected by the public and by himself to be omniscient about all of medicine despite his limited training. He has to rely on reporters trying to sell ratings, in order to gain an understanding of medical issues. It is sad to see any physician fall so far....

Typical one sided sensationalistic bs from Dr. Oz. Only HE is the perfect doctor that can cure every ailment to man with some acai berry. It would be nice also if he listed ALL of the other treatments that are off label that are utilized. Or show some footage of a cardiac surgery patient who died or had a devastating stroke after cardiac bypass.

When Dr. Oz first got his show, I admit that I was hopeful that he could make a real impact on promoting proper health in the population. He's just become a media ***** trying to portray all docs as self serving and greedy (with the exception of himself of course, even though he's no longer a clinican).

So what does he actually propose? I once had a patient come to me with clean MRI, total body pain. Told her injection not indicated, opioids not indicated, recommend exercise and learning appropriate pain coping. She got mad at me and was like

"If you cant figure out my pain, I dont want to see you. I'm going ask Dr. Oz and be on his show!"

I strongly supported this and encouraged her to do so.

Talk like that gets you hauled in front of congress.

Yes, he got exposed for all of his bogus miracle-cure endorsements he claims he doesn't endorse, which are as bogus as his fear-mongering episodes regarding legitimate treatments that have research behind them.

I could care less for the guy.

Yes I do ESI's to make a 150, if I am lucky

However, he has had a pain specialist on the show, but I think the pain specialist was caught off guard

Is it worth even one paralyzed patient?

Way to frame the debate Dr. Oz.

Is driving cars worth even one quadraplegic five year old?

What a tool.

He is such a hack.

How about------- Is open heart surgery worth even one death, or the dozens that die on the table each year?

My opinion: they should pull his license over the misinformation and fear tactics he's spread. He does it for money and his ego, alone.

I'm late to this, but i am convinced form Dr. Oz investigative reporting. I am no longer offering ESIs as a treatment option. Just methadone and oxycontin, and fusions. never mind the 1000's i personally have helped and not paralyzed, but forget about them, because ONE PARAPLEGIC is just too many.

good thing no one has ever had a complication from any other procedure, such as heart surgery. Never ever seen or heard of a problem from it.

From what I understand, he was issued a subpoena to appear in front of congressional committee and he's being looked at for fraud. I hear that lawsuits are starting to be filed against him. Maybe the tide is turning.

Dr. Oz:
“I actually do personally believe in the items I talk about on the show,” he added. “I recognize that oftentimes they don’t have the scientific muster to pass as fact. I have given my family these products.”

Really?

So the dietary scams you hawk are perfectly acceptable, but well studied medical procedures with the possibility for rare but catastrophic complications are unacceptable- unless performed by you of course. Right.

He could have at least regained my respect a little bit, if he was honest and said,

"Senator, though I technically don't have endorsement deals with these snake oil companies, my sensationalizing them weekly on my show does allow me to keep my ratings through the roof, which allows me to rake in a HUGE salary I could never get as a doctor, and allows me to virtually never have to carry a life-ruining pager and get called in at 3 am to take some crashing aortic aneurysms/dissection to the OR for an emergent aortic-valve/aneurysm repair like the other suckers out their still practicing medicine in this day and age. Senator, that's why I hawk these sh'tty and worthless products."

If he had said that, my reaction would have been, dayumn, at least he's honest.
