Hey everyone,

The title says it all. Just how important is it to get LORs from 3 science professors when applying to Columbia and Stony Brook? (Are there any other schools that require 3 LORs from science faculty members?) Would an applicant not be considered for interview if he/she submits 2 LORs from science professors and another from a humanities professor?

Columbia
Three CONFIDENTIAL letters of recommendation from science professors or one composite letter from a pre-health committee. Additional letters of recommendation from employers or non-science professors will be accepted, but will not satisfy the requirement. Official letters of recommendation are only sent directly to the AADSAS application service.

Stony Brook
A pre-professional advisory committee letter is required. However, if your college or university does not provide a committee letter, three recommendation letters from senior science faculty members will be accepted.

When I asked, they said they will not make an exception regardless of circumstances (I'm more than 3 years out of undergrad with 2 sci LORs) :(

You will be rejected without interview if you don't follow their policies. Stony brook is insanely strict.

If you want to get in, you probably should do them or it'll be an uphill battle.
