Hello,

I am confused on the changes in the number of chromosomes during both mitosis and meiosis in humans. I know before the S phase we have 23 pairs of chromosomes, in cliff notes it says this means 46 chromosomes total. Each of the 46 chromosomes has two strands of DNA or chromatids. So we have 92 chromatids total. Do we have 92 chromatids after replication? And before, do we just have 46 chromosomes that are called 46 because we have 23 chromosomes that are composed of two chromatids each. And one of the chromatids is from the mother and the other from the father.

If someone could explain the changes in number of chromosomes, chromatids, etc. in mitosis and meiosis that would be awesome. I have always been confused on this aspect with regard to humans.

After watching this video visit his website and take his quizzes on meiosis. I found to be useful.

Hope this helps,
