Yeah, our current system can put a square around a standard 40x field of view which is okay for leukocyte estimates but for platelets you have to like count them (which are already tiny at 40, I’d normally do a plt count at 100), then do math for whatever factor a 40x field compares to a 100x one, then multiply again by 15-20k or whatever you use. It’s a hassle.Yeah we kept running into problems when they were trying to teach us clin path virtually. "Ok it's x amount of fields times some arbitrary number"... "ok what's a high power field on this app?" ... "uh, do your best"
We ran into a similar issue with the student scopes where I did my residency. We teach them to estimate platelets on 100 but when they actually practice with real slides the scopes only have a 60 dry as the highest so you gotta to use a different multiplier to be correct...but we just told them to ‘practice’ using the normal 100x math even though it wouldn’t be right for that actual sample.
