Q) Barium is an alkaline earth metal with the atomic numer 56. Which set of quantum may be written for a valence electron of barium?

Can you explain why the answer has to be b,please? And why it cannot be a.

Please answer this question.

I find L first. L= shape...in this case Barium's valence shell is in S orbital which is number 0. N (quantum number) must be L+1 so..N can be 1,2, etc. In this case, Barium is in the 6th period so N = 6.

Now, N = 6, L = 0, ML = 0 (can only be + or - L) Spin = (can only be + or - 1/2)

*The key for me is starting out with L..some people do it differently. Hopefully that is correct, I don't have my Destroyer with me at the moment.
