delta Hf, delta Hc, Totally confused. Help please. which is positive? which is negative?

According to

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_of_combustion
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_enthalpy_change_of_formation

For a reaction like: C+O2-->CO2 + 1000KJ
delta Hf is (-1000)
delta Hc is (+1000)

Please confirm or correct me, thanks!

For the most part, and for the DAT, the heat of formation can be assumed to be negative and the heat of combustion is also negative. some heat of formations can be positive or neutral

when you create bonds, you are releasing energy as enthalpy or heat. in a combustion reaction, energy is also released as heat.
