Hello,

I recently ran into a pain doctor doing DEXA scans and prescribing Forteo. Is this a common practice? I think people who do a lot of kyphoplasty often do this, but what about pain docs who do little if any kyphoplasty?

Thank you for your thoughts.

Agree with Steve. Its a good topic to address in older patients and for those on chronic opioids to mitigate some of the adverse effects of the drugs. These patients will often say they see the pain doctor more than any other physician so its good medicine to look for the osteopenia/porosis. Now whether each patient needs Forteo or not is another question.
