I remember when I was getting into pharmacy school in the early 2010's this forum was really hopping. I look at it now and it seems like it died. What happened? At that time it was the pre pharmacy forum that had a lot more traffic than the Pharmacy forum. Now it's changed.

The rapid rise in pharmacy schools has finally taken its toll as the pharmacy job and industry market bubble burst. Applications have dropped significantly and filling classes is a real challenge.

Also, generationally, students are getting information from different social media sites and love TikTok, IG, and visual media forms.

It is not just the pre- pharmacy forum that has died. I find that almost the whole profession has been going under since the affordable care act was passed and healthcare is shifting from volume to value (or fee for service to value based care). Pharmacist have no way to bill other than incident to billing in some areas and other healthcare workers like RNs can do this as well. Pharmacist have always been paid for volume in the past and now that it is shifting to value without a way to get paid for services. The pharmacy board certifications are also the same and the Clinical Nurse Specialist Board Certifications. The difference is that CNS are gaining traction with independent practice and independent prescribing in many states. Does anyone have this kind of status for Clinical Pharmacist Specialist other than places like the VA for independent practice and prescribing? Or is is just Collaborate practice agreements and using incident to billing for pharmacist? Some states may allow Medicaid to pay for some services pharmacist provide.

Good

You really think these poor naive students should be swarming to pharmacy. People finally woke up, maybe a few decades late

I haven't bothered looking, but I'm wondering if residencies are becoming more competitive or if they're struggling to find applicants also.

Man, pharmacy was still fun back in 2010. You could see some cracks at the edges, but I never knew this is where we'd end up.
