Before I become a member in the student doctor forum, I never heared that an optometrist has less respect in the medical field, Why??? I do not agree, this is unfair.

Not that "respect" really matters anyways but in general I would have to say the following:
1) Too many members of our profession work in decidely UNprofessional surroundings such as Walmarts, Costcos, and the malls of America. Couple that with the fact that too many people who aren't in those environments are located in strip mall locations in between nail salons and pizzerias. It doesn't exactly promote the image of places where healing arts are practiced.
2) Optometrists rarely work in hospital settings.
3) There's really no sexy surgeries.
4) There's very little blood and guts. There's very little pain involved with what we deal with.
5) There's very little death related to anything ocular related.
