A radiologist recently told me that he pretty much had to know EVERYTHING to do his job. Well, not in those words, but that was the gist of it.

My question is which parts of medicine does a good radiologist need to know. Is it all the differentials of radiographic findings, the physical findings a clinical doc is basing the request for a study on, physiology, pathology, typical presentations/characteristics (non-radiographic) of disease, memorize Harrison's, or all of the above? It seems that what a medicine attending and a radiologist "think about" during the day are quite different. Anyone in the know care to comment on those differences?

As always, interested in your thoughts/opinions,
P
