Earlier today I was reading a thread here posted by someone who was Brazilian and wondering if he had a chance at med schools. The focal point of the discussion was if he counted as a URM or not. It played out almost like a satire. Somehow the value of this individual's life experiences was being pushed to the wayside and in its place, an arbitrary categorization was used to determine his admissions chances. Isn't it ironic that URM was originally a way to take people's life experiences into account in the admissions process but instead it's doing the opposite?
I really hope that admissions committee members don't treat URM admissions this way.
