I am looking at pursuing a DrPH over a PhD because of the flexibility to do it part-time for many programs.

Is it possible to work as a professor, and conduct research at the university level with a DrPH?

I don't see why not; a DrPH with 30 publications is going to look much more appealing to a university department than a PhD with 15 publications (assuming the publications are of similar quality and in similar journals)

UNC has several solid professors with a DrPH. Pick a good school and publish in great journals. Academia is seriously competitive and all grant funded, but as long as you're at the top, that won't hold you back. Good luck!
