I recently spoke with an MS4 who matched into urology. He said that the surgery case length appealed to him. What is the "average" time for various urology surgeries? I know complicated surgeries in gen. surg. and others can take 10+ hours? Is this ever the case with urology, or is it much shorter? Thanks!

As in every other field the length of surgery is dependent on the specific surgery being done. A vasectomy or circumcision can take 10 minutes. A cystectomy with neobladder can take 8 hours. Most other cases are somewhere in between. As a resident you don't have a ton of control, but as an attending you can focus on the surgeries that interest you most.
