Thought this was interesting. Tragic case but … idk that I’ve seen a lot of 20 year olds postop (besides ortho cases ) show up on DVT ppx?

Acute severe ulcerative colitis is a huge risk factor for VTE, something like 5-6 times the baseline risk. Add in a major abdominal surgery, and you're a sitting duck.

Look like it was documented as ordered but not actually ordered. Definitely a systems issue. Very tragic.

Yup. See these people from time to time in Heme clinic especially post-resection(s) we gotta figure out which anticoagulant their remaining gut is fit to absorb.

I also take issue with the phrase “routine colectomy”
