The other thread hasn't been updated in 3+ years, so I wanted to get started a new one with all the new programs. I will continue adding programs, just can't do it all at once. Will also add links to any recent reviews of the program by current residents of that program, if you PM me with the URL or leave a note below.

If you actually click on any given individual link listed in the original thread, you will be redirected to the review thread for that program. Most have been updated within the past 1-2 years (e.g., I just went through the Maricopa County review thread. First review was from 2007 (I think), but there are 2-3 reviews from 2014-2015). I also found it useful to compare the earlier reviews from previous residents to those of current residents; gives you an idea of how a program has improve (or deteriorated) over the past few years.

The example I gave has reviews by current residents (in subsequents posts, not necessarily the opening one) as recent as May of this year. What exactly is your definition of "updated"?

Some are updated some are hideously old (ex Penn states last post was in 2008). Just varies by the program, I don't think this is a bad idea to update it except it's going to quickly become unmanageable. Maybe an external Google doc?

The main problem is that there are a ton programs with the last review being >4 years ago.

Take California for example:

program/last review
Highland = 2011
Loma Linda = 2009
Olive View = 2011
Irvine = 2009
USC = 2011

Not to mention there are still a few places without any reviews at all (UT San Antonio, Washington, Wright State, Virginia Tech, etc...)

Its probably not realistic to expect new reviews every year. At the same time it would be nice to have more up to date information available for applicants (updated reviews every 2-3 years).

I think the issue is that not enough people are writing reviews and posting them to the threads or messaging an admin and asking them to post anonymously. I don't think a new thread needs to be made for each program, but perhaps more people could be encouraged to write reviews and update the list

There are many interview day reviews of programs posted in the past few years' EM ROL threads that do not appear in the residency reviews stickied threads, even though I have seen reviews of these types in the official threads. Could we "move" these into the threads to update them, using quotes? I would definitely be willing to do some of these types of updates. It would consolidate a lot of info, as well as provide more recent reviews.

Wrote this last year in the ROL thread...currently an intern here. Feel free to put this whereever you wish.

UT-Memphis-
Pros: New program in a very crime heavy city (#3 in the country, #1 Detroit, #2 Flint). 80K visits a year and very sick people (on a shadow shift I saw 3 central lines, LP and STEMI). Chest pain and stroke center. Recently expanded the ED to (about) 56 beds, just finished in September and looks AWESOME. Has low risk chest pain/obs area in the ED and a fast track staffed by PAs. Highest rates of strokes in the country. Heavy critical care focus with a possibility of a neurocritical care fellowship in the future. Trauma is covered at The MED as a intern and a senior. It seems to be set up a lot like Cook County (separate trauma center from ED). Faculty is a good mix of newbies and seasoned attendings who were all very enthusiastic and passionate about the program and opportunities presented. Clicked with two of the faculty members almost instantly. Ties to TN and the greater Memphis area. PD is a cool laid back guy that has a lot of interest in things like tactical/hyperbarics which I've never considered before. Would be interested in learning more about that from him. Great opportunity to really build a program that shines. Had the most amazing pre-interview dinner. The food and wine at the restaurant was incredible (that probably carries a little bit too much influence) Even though this is a new program, I feel as though I would be a beast coming out. Cons: Peds isn't seen in the main ED, but peds shifts will be mixed in with the ED months. With the new expansion of the ED, nursing staff wasn't also amped up, so there has been a lot of nurse turnover. Nurses were very nice and friendly on the shadow shift, but I don't know how that will play out in regards to the amount of scutwork.
------
I would like to add that our homebase is Methodist University (Central). We do a community ED month every year at St. Francis Hospital. St. Francis has only FM residents there. We do OB as an intern at Methodist South where we are the only residents there so there is no competition for deliveries. Teaching is one-on-one with an attending. During our senior year trauma, we will spend time with the anesthesiologists learning how to manage trauma airways.

It used to be a DO program. There's a review or two in the osteopathic programs thread.

Kern Medical Emergency is a diamond in the rough. I recently graduated and stayed on as faculty (that says something right?) Feel free to PM me with any questions re the program.
For matching in residency, definitely do away/audition rotations where you want to end up and to see if the program is a "good fit". For Kern Medical Emergency you can visit for more info:
