Hi,

Some I am very interested in med/peds and I am currently trying to plan my fourth year elective schedule. I can do four one month electives, one of which must be a subI in medicine or pediatrics. Would it be a good idea to do a subI in each field? Does anyone have any recommendations of what a good schedule would be for those 4 months?

Right now this is what im considering:

Aug.-Med/Peds outpatient
Sept.-Medicine SubI
Oct.-Ped. Onc or ID
Nov.-medicine subspecialty

I am also an FMG so I also need to be compeitive and rotate at hospitals that Im interested in.

Thanks for any advice.

My impression and the advice I received from my advisors is that it is not necessary to do a sub-internship in both medicine and pediatrics and you should favor doing the sub-internship in medicine over pediatrics.

Personally, I did my sub-I in medicine and then did a rotation in the pediatric ICU. That way I got some internal medicine and pediatrics both plus some critical care.
