I was just rejected by an MD school that seemed to be a good possibility for me so I've been scrambling to see if any DO schools offer rolling admissions. I wanted to find out whether it might be worth it to send an AACOM application now with the intent of being admitted this coming fall semester. Yes, it was an act of desperation.

I found that no schools offered any evidence of rolling admissions with the partial exception of KCUMB-COM which strongly suggests applying by November 1st the year prior to admission. Below is a listing with relevant links. Most links come directly from the schools' websites themselves. I trust those links the most. Links from AACOM and other websites strike me as more likely to be out of date. One link comes from SDN and I have provided a date for it.

Here is the list below for your perusal. I hope this helps you guys, mostly to motivate you to plan way ahead and submit your primary application at the earliest possible time:

Per their websites, the following medical schools use a rolling admissions process:

Page 9 here - www.aacom.org/docs/default-source/insideome/aacomasinstructions.pdf - lists all the deadlines for the respective schools.

I didn't look over your list, but from the looks of it you've listed nearly every single school that exists. And as far as I know, rolling admissions applies to every single osteopathic school.

To be honest though, you don't really have much of a shot being this late in the cycle. Deadlines are coming up (or have passed) for most schools. I also assume that since you initially only applied to allopathic schools, you have no DO shadowing experience nor do you have any sort of DO letter. That would make your application even more of a red flag to adcoms, indicating that you've basically applied as a last resort, which you are.

P.S.: The warning you gave out regarding submitting primary apps early doesn't really apply since this is the Osteopathic forum, not the pre-osteo forum.

Do not apply this cycle to DO schools. A lot of what you have stated is common knowledge to those applying in pre-osteo. You understand the importance of an early app and should heed your own advice. You should try to get a DO letter and start prepping your app for the next cycle. Make sure to search around the pre-osteo forums more to know the ins and outs of the whole DO application process. Good luck to you.

Yea you missed your shot. Apply early next year.

Some of the schools (such as KCUMB) stopped sending invites around December.

Sort of your fault for putting DO as a backup and not investing your time to applying to both early.

OP, look at the AOA CIB. It is like a catalog for all the schools and it lists their policies, deadlines, etc. There's a page in there that lists when all the primary and secondary deadlines for each school is (Page 20 of the CIB).

CIB: http://www.aacom.org/docs/default-source/cib/2015_cibfull-web.pdf?sfvrsn=8

So basically the deadlines for AZCOM, CCOM, KCUMB, MSUCOM, TCOM, and Nova have already passed. In addition, the primary application deadline for KCOM, DMU, NYCOM, PCOM, PCOM-GA, OU-HCOM, OSUCOM, RowanSOM, UNECOM, KYCOM, COMP and COMP-NW is Feb 1st, which honestly is before your primary would be verified even if you submitted today. That's basically instantly eliminating half of the schools.

Remember, after you submit, the primary might take a couple weeks to get verified, then it's sent to schools and it could take 2-3wks to get secondaries. Even if you submit the secondaries the same day that you get them, it could take a total of a month from primary app submission to being complete, so I wouldn't waste time with any schools that have secondary deadlines before March.

Basically all schools have rolling admission, but the best will already be filled and the middle ones will have less than a quarter of their seats left. If you have high stats, say around average for MD matriculants, you might get in to some school, but if you wait a year, you could reapply MD and apply DO properly at the beginning of the cycle. Unless money is no object, and you have a really good reason why you can't wait a year, and you don't care what school you get into, then I would take the gap year, and apply in the summer.

Good luck, whatever you decide.
