I'm currently a 4th year in a medical school in Taiwan, and lately I've been thinking about going to New Zealand in the future.

From what I understand so far, after I graduate, I would need to take the NZREX clinical exam which is an OSCE, after which I would be granted a Provisional General status. This is assuming a hospital has given me an internship job first (is provisional general the same as internship?)

However, I'm still unsure as to what "Provisional General" means. Would this be a sort of a PGY year/s (but not yet residency)? Would matching and then residency come after I clear this hurdle? Could someone give me a broad road map in what I would expect should I decide to come New Zealand in the future?

I would also love to hear experiences from other IMGs who successfully or unsuccessfully immigrated to New Zealand!

I am not from Taiwan but I did move to NZ after training overseas. Provisional general scope would let you work under supervision. After a time, you may be eligible to apply for general scope and/or a training position but it would depend on your credentials, training, experience, and immigration issues. Vocational scope lets a doctor work as a specialist but it can be hard to get that recognition if you train overseas and there is usually a supervision period. Good luck!
