Technically, you get 2.5 days a month, which comes out to 31 days a year. However, the formal leave policy says you can't take leave and liberty together. For example, if you want to take a day of leave the Friday before memorial day for a four day weekend, you are charged 4 days. Similarly, if you leave after work on a friday, and plan to return a week from the following monday, you'll be charged 9 days, not the actual 5 you missed work. This has always annoyed me a little, but reality depends on your command. Some commands will not charge you leave on liberty, and that's on the down-low. I suppose the rationale for this process is that you're on call 24/7, as you belong to the military, and if you're not within easy recall, you must be on leave. That is why we get 31 days a year, rather than 15 or so the government service civilians get.
