Has verification been taking significantly longer during COVID, compared to pre-COVID cycles?

Looking at some of the verification timelines from 2017, 2018, and 2019, 4-5 weeks seems like the max amount of time during peak periods. 2-3 weeks was more common for applicants that applied later in the cycle like August and September. However last year the max amount of time during the peak period looks like 6-7 weeks and even those that submitted in early-mid August were not verified until mid-late September.

Should similar verification times be expected of this cycle? In other words, should those who submit in mid-August not expect to be verified until late September?

Yes. AMCAS says right on its landing page, under a prominent Alert, that "verification takes 6 to 8 weeks from Ready for Review status." As a result, that's exactly what you should expect.

Only they know what their queue looks like, how quickly new applications are coming in, and how quickly they are completing verifications. No amount of uninformed speculation or educated guesses here are going to have greater value than that.

I wouldn't be shocked if they end up beating those numbers for submissions a month from now, since they are currently taking around a month, and we are at the peak of the submission season right now, but they are not promising that, so you really have to expect what they are telling you to expect. If they do a little better, then great, they beat expectations.

Are you just asking for the sake of asking, or are you actually planning on submitting in mid-August? If so, what is the strategy behind waiting so long, and, at that point, what is the difference between a verification in the middle or end of September at that point? Either will be on the late side for MD, and I'm not sure two weeks one way or the other will make a difference to a school, as long as you are in before their deadline.
