Hey

I've been a lurker for quite a while now and this is my first post and i just got my MCAT back,
PS 12
VR 11
BS 13
WS P
but my concern is my low GPA have a 3.4 c GPA and 3.2 sGPA so really i just wanna know if I can get in somewhere. I do have an upward trend tho ending with a 3.8 in the last semester of my junior year. my ECs are ok, I started a chapter of a club called Association for India's Development, I've worked at Planned Parenthood and two women's shelters(both with a nurse practioner) and I have about 100 hours of clinical volunteering/shadowing with a gynecologist in India. I have shadowed an infectious disease specialist, oncologist and 2 gynecologists. I am going to try to shadow my mom's GI specialist before I submit my app too. Oh and I have also worked in 2 labs, 2.5 years in an HIV lab doing bench research and I started a research project on C. difficile risk factors working with patient records.

I'm from MI so I'll be applying to wayne, MSU and U of M for sure. But U of M is def a long shot. I really would like to go in the northeast so I'm looking at NYMC and Albany.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone could help me out with school choices and general chances for an MD acceptance. I am applying DO also but I need to shadow one first.

Thanks so much

Your wonderful MCAT score should compensate for the low cGPA, but you'll need to select schools that take lower BCPM GPAs. You can look at the School Selection spreadsheet stickied at the top of this forum to get ideas of schools that are right for you. Your research, leadership, and clinical experience look fine. You probably have enough shadowing if it's about 50+ hours, except for the needed DO exposure. I see that some of your clinical experience appears to also cover the community service expectation.

Post the school list you come up with and others will be happy to critique it for you. I think that in general your chances of an acceptance somewhere are very good.
