Obviously the standard advice about apply EARLY and BROADLY. Agree with your other advice, esp. about raising that MCAT score.

Don't know much about the Texas med schools application process, but if your friend plans to reapply to schools under AMCAS he most likely will need a new LOR, better if it was from a recent professor.
