I had a few questions regarding HSCT I was hoping that someone could answer on this board. I know that many questions can be answered by Pubmed/Textbooks/Google, but medicine residency sometimes limits the amount of time for reading. Also, some of these questions are to confirm understanding of my reading.
Regarding haploidentical transplants:
1) My understanding is that this is basically someone whom is half HLA-matched for transplant from a brother/sister due to inherited haplotypes from parents (e.g. 3/6 matched for HLA-A, HLA-B, ?HLA-DR?). Is this correct?
2) Is haploidentical a label that only applies to donors whom are family members, or can an unrelated 3/6 HLA match be considered a haploidentical donor.
Regarding cord blood transplants:
1) Are double cord blood transplants from two different non-related cords?
2) If they are from non-related cords, do the two different cords have to have the same HLA matching?
Thanks for your time.
