Hey all. Anyone been to Honduras (Soto Cano) and would care to shed some light as to what it's like (facilities/mission/etc) and if it's a good assignment? Thanks.

Several of the pilots in my last unit had rotated down to Hondo before coming to us. They seemed to like it. Opportunities for travel around the Caribbean when taking leave, facilities sounded OK. They have a drug interdiction mission there which is pretty cool and there is also a MEDEVAC unit co-located. The MEDEVAC guys mostly train but every so often it sounded like they would hoist locals out of trouble. Both units fly Blackhawks. There might be some Apaches there as well.

There used to be a bar right out on the flight line but I think they shut it down.

Word of warning- all of these strange little outposts tend to attract a certain type of person who wants to avoid deployment etc. You will probably have a fair share of shammers and malingerers.
